‘Energy plantation’
DR. GEORGE C. SZEGO and Dr. Clinton C. Kemp of the Inter Technology Corp., of Warrenton, will present papers on the “Energy Plantation,” at a meeting of the Virginia Academy of Science to be held Friday at Williamsburg.
According to Szego and Kemp, who are president and vice president respectively of the Warrenton firm, the “energy plantation’’ concept visualizes the growth of vegetable matter for its fuel value. This will be a means, the scientists say, of directly harnessing solar energy in the form of a fuel by photosynthesis: Costs of fuel from the energy plantation, they added, should, with slight changes in farming and forestry practices, become competitive with fossil fuel costs.
They said that the technology for growing fuel in an energy plantation and of processing it for use is known, but must be adapted for fuel value production.
Dr. Szego and Dr. Kemp will speak as a part of the program on “The Energy Crunch,” arranged by the Engineering Section of the Academy during the 51st annual meeting.
