H.S. Barksdale, a wise, humble and successful man has lived in Virginia all his life and through almost all of the twentieth century. For 46 years he has been a resident of Rappahannock County.
When he first came to Rappahannock County in the late 1920’s, rail and stone fences criss-crossed the fields. Country stores located in every community were the center of most community action. Several grist mills powered by flowing streams were grinding flour and corn meal.
