With races back-to-back at Middleburg and Richmond this past weekend, Mrs. Charles Fenwick elected to send her Portebelo III postward at Middleburg and the choice was wise, winning the open race over Hard Apple and King of Spades. This Saturday he goes postward in Bella Vista Farm’s colors ridden by Gil Flautt III.

A SURPRISE winner in the Leeds Manor at Middleburg, Paul Mellon’s Mongogo, trained by Ridgely White, trainer of three times Gold Cup winner Leeds Don, will try to take the Gold Cup for his owner in the absence of his stablemate Chapel Street.

A number of Maryland invaders will go postward, including Don Polinger’s Idol Fellow, ridden by Bruce Fenwick; Charles Fenwick’s Devil’s Lancer; Mrs. Odgen Phipps’Vocalist, trained by Mike Smithwick; Turney McKnight’s owner-rider Gun Mount and Mrs. H. N. Slater Jr.’s Devil’s Brolley.
