TOURIST TRAFFIC is getting scarce on Route 211 as it winds along the south fork of the Thornton River through Sperryville and climbs the mountain up to Panorama. And storekeepers along the route say the gas “crisis” is taking a toll on their sales.
The Route 211 shops sell home-grown apples and cider, honey and hams, baskets, mountain crafts, Confederate flags, bird baths and flower pots, tapestry, bedspreads and cement figurines of frogs and chickens, skunks and seahorses, lions and swans.
