NEITHER Leonard nor Kilby could estimate how much the program will cost Rappahannock. “We’re just on the threshold of giving this serious thought,” Kilby said. “Not enough has been decided yet to know how much it will cost.”
But the program will mean a major increase in the school budget. Additional buses, equipment, classrooms and teachbrs will be necessary. Leonard said the 80 extra students will require at least three more classrooms and teachers.
He added that existing school buildings in Rappahannock are now full, but did not say that new construction was necessary.
“Perhaps space can be found,” he said.
LEONARD said that the kindergarten program is not “adding another grade.” He refers t<? it as a “readiness program.”
