FOR THE first time since the establishment of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Co-operative, its volume of business topped the million dollar mark in 1973.
This was disclosed in a report by the local Co-op manager, Gordon Thornhill at the annual membership meeting Monday evening at Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria. Total for the past year stoodat$l,012,703.67, said Mr. Thornhill.
At most all departments showed an increase over the previous year and the total increase over last year was $188,063.25.
In making his report Mr. Thornhill was most complimentary to the employees of the local company which is a subsidiary of the parent plant, Culpeper Farmers’ Cooperative. In spite of today’s run-away costs, the past year had the lowest operations costs since 1967.
W. A. Spillman, Jr., president of the Culpeper Farmers’ Co-operative, told persons gathered for the dinner meeting Monday that the success of the company stems from the diligent work of the employees and the loyal support of the membership.
