Polo action

From Page 1 POLO WAS introduced to the Western World when the Maharaja of Lahore demonstrated the sport for British officers stationed in India in 1854. The first game was played in England in 1874 and the game reached the United States in 1876.

Sporting historians are not sure when polo was first played, but one legend has it that the'sport follows a Tibetan custom of hunting muskrat. The animal was driven out of its burrow, chased until near exhaustion by mounted hunters and then killed by their clubs. Mock hunts in off season are said to have kept the hunters in shape.
