AN enthusiastic round of clapping shattered the usual serenity of the Rappahannock County Library when Ruth Blackwell, in her librarian’s report, revealed the 1974 facts to her board of directors Thursday evening, January 23.
Miss Blackwell reported: “First, a comparison of total circulation shows that we checked our nearly twice as many books in calendar year 1974 as we did in 1973. To be sure last February’s book review contest contributed to this increase, but there were over 350 books borrowed in both October and November past. This was more than in any month in 1973.” She added: “About 200 new borrowers were issued library cards last year.” - “Another significant fact,” continued Miss Blackwell, “that came to light is that the category which had the highest circulation both years was juvenile fiction, followed closely by adult non-fiction.”
