Kuncewicz agreed with Saunders’s suggestion about petitions. “One hundred and fifty-three speeches at a public hearing may not do as much as 20,000 signatures on a petition. We should be exploring more avenues.”
Pat Saltonstall agreed. “There’s another court beyond the Virginia Supreme Court, if we find out that’s crooked, too.” She, like Kuncewicz, wanted to look into other ways to prevent the powerline.
“Could it be said that 664 disenfranchises local government in some way,” she asked. “Could it be unconstitutional? I don’t know, but isn’t that something we could look into?
ED HARRIS agreed that RLEP members should get busy on other ways to block the powerline while the attorneys work on the appeal. “We shouldn’t give up,” he said. Harris noted that reports indicate a break in the historic trend of increasing electrical growth. This has brought about an element of uncertainty never before experienced by the utility companies, he said.
