Phil Irwin told the property owners in the powerline right-ofway to be sure and get as much money as possible from Vepco. “A condemnation jury will not give you any less than Vepco has offered you, so hold out for as much as possible—you can’t lose,” he said. In some cases, powerline companies have had to pay as much as five times the price they have offered for rightof-way, he said. Irwin asked for a show of hands as to how many people present did own land within the right-of-way. Out of the 30some people at the meeting, only four were landowners.
Ed Harris asked that a special committee be appointed by RLEP’s president to look into any legislative, judicial, administrative or other means by which to delay or block the powerline. Harris also thought another special committee should be established to look into the possibility of conflict of interest on the part of SCC members.
