AREA residents are urged to use discretion in planning their Christmas holiday decorations. The Potomac Edison Company has issued its annual appeal to individuals, businesses and municipalities to eliminate or at least reduce decorative lighting for the coming holidays.

Conservation of energy and the cost of energy are two reasons cited by PE for continuing its practice of the past several years to urge such restraint. “It is certainly not news to anyone that the cost of electricity has been increasing,” said C. I. Cather, division manager for the utility company, “and anything a customer can do to hold down his usage will help hold down his bill. This is particularly helpful during the winter months when usage is usually higher than at any other time of year.”

FURTHERMORE, he stated, many people will not acknowledge that there is a very severe energy crisis facing this country, but there is one, he said, and it is related to fuel supplies and cost.
