Old timers predicted the weather by various visible signs, among which are hornet’s nests. If the nest is built high from the ground the winter is supposedly going to be severe and if constructed in a low area the weather will be mild. This one attached to some young locust branches was sort of “halfway between,” so maybe this is an indication that the present unusually mild weather will continue moderate.
