PROPOSALS to protect the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers as State Scenic Rivers were killed by the State Commission of Outdoor Recreation last Friday in Richmond. However, the Commission voted to recommend state legislation designating Goose Creek in Loudoun as a State Scenic River.
The large amount of opposition to the scenic river plans on the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers expressed by riverfront landowners and the lack of support from local legislators and governments, were cited as the major reasons why the Commission of Outdoor Recreation did not recommend scenic river designation to the General Assembly.
