The child of five is in the developmental stage of self identity. He needs to know who he is, what he can do and how well he is doing. This becomes for him either his drive to succeed, or conversely the force which thwarts motivation. Research has shown that what a child thinks of himself and Ms ability has greater influence on his actual accomplishments than his I.Q.
