After the game, coach Douglas, who is moving to Western Carolina as a graduate assistant next year, applauded his team’s efforts. “You have nothing to be ashamed about. You didn’t quit all season, and I’m proud of you,’’ he said.
After losing several returning starters because of problems with grades, Rappahannock surprised everyone by winning the Skyline District Tournament and advancing to the state finals for the first time in the school’s history. The Panthers finished their last season under Douglas with a 14-5 record.□
