THE 4s students using tne iaD were all referred by their English teachers, said Studt. Standardized reading comprehension testing is used to determine problem areas where the children are deficient. Then Studt uses further specialized testing to put the student in one of the Random House program’s five levels.
After Studt identifies the student’s particular problem, he prepares a program perscription that the student follows in individual work. Once Studt feels that the student has mastered the problem area, a check-out test is given. If the student passes, he moves on to the next level. If not he tries again. There’s no stigma attached to repeat work and none of the materials are marked with any special grade designation.
