THE directory would give a prospective employer somewhere to look for the service or skill he needs within. the county. It would also give the person trying to start an independent enterprise a place to find help. Laurie also plans to include a listing of tools and equipment that would be available for use or loan and under what terms. She hopes to find people that are willing to barter what they have for what they need in addition to persons interested in cash transactions only.
“This has the potential to cross class lines,” Laurie maintains. She emphasized that the directory is intended to include more than just the younger, poorer segment of the community.
Laurie has talked to representatives from Youth Project, a branch of HEW specifically concerned with free lance organizing, in an attempt to find funding for the project. Officials there are trying to help the Woodville group but haven’t made a definite commitment yet because of Congressional funding cutbacks to HEW.
