ACCORDING to a statewide survey of high school seniors conducted by the Department of Education, last year, Rappahannock students gave high marks to the quality of instruction they received and indicated they enjoyed a good rapport with their teachers.
At the same time, results show the seniors felt they needed additional instruction in basic math skills and wanted a wider curriculum offered at the high school. Also of interest in predominantly rural Rappahannock is that only 2.3 percent of lastyear’s seniors see themselves becoming farm helpers or dairy workers.
The seniors rated quality of instruction received in English and science substantially higher than did students throughout the state as a whole. In English, 95.5 per cent felt instruction was very good or fairly good. In science, 93.2 per cent gave their instruction the same ranking.
In history, mathematics and vocational training, Rappahannock students ranked their instruction at approximately the same level as students throughout the state. Ratings of very good or fairly good were given by 79.5 per cent in mathematics, 81.8 per cent in history/government and 86.2 per cent in vocational training.
