with teachers, 38.6 per cent selected broader curriculum, 55.7 selected more electives and 43.2 selected more career oriented courses. In more specific categories, 53. 4 per cent of Rappahannock seniors felt additional instruction was needed in mathematics skills, 31.8 wanted more reading instruction, 25 per cent wanted additional writing instruction and 35.2 felt more help was needed in developing speaking skills.
Rappahannock teachers were rated highly by their students, according to the survey. Seniors were asked to indicate characteristics they felt applied to their high school and 63.6 per cent felt they were understood by their teachers, compared to only 30.8 per cent in the state as a whole.
Seventy-three per cent felt they had the opportunity to discuss ideas in the classroom, 62.5 per cent felt their accomplishments had been recognized and 27.3 per cent felt they had received individual instruction from teachers. On the other hand, only 27.3 per cent of Rappahannock students felt they had the opportunity to take challenging courses compared to 52.7 per cent throughout the state.
RAPPAHANNOCK students gave the availability and helpfulness of guidance counselors, high school principal, assistant principal and teachers higher rankings than students throughout the state.
