^ast y®ar tht Division of Motor Vehicles issued 17,250 photo identification cards for Virginians who do not drive, bringing the total issued in the past three and a half years to 37,800, according toVern L. Hill, DMV commissioner.
The cards, first issued in July 1973, are available only to Virginia residents who do not have a driver’s license. They include the owner’s name and address, date of birth, sex, signature and color photo. Enclosed in a plastic case, the cards cost $5 and are valid for five years.
Individuals seeking the photo IDs may get applications at any DMV branch office or license examining station. They should have with them proof of identity and date of birth. DMV will accept as proof a birth certificate, school records, parents’ affidavit, baptismal certificate, military records or other similar documents.
Since the cards are useful in establishing both identification and proof of age, Hill said they should be especially helpful to senior citizens seeking to qualify for discounts to which they are entitled at many places of business. □
