Commission and Division of Forestry personnel, several Local Forest Wardens, CB operators, and local residents responded to the fire. Cooperation from volunteers from Amissville, Castleton, Sperryville, Flint Hill, and Washington was invaluable, Wood said. The fire was under control at about 12 midnight and was not completely extinguished until Monday morning yvhen there were some light showers.
It is suspected that the Fork Mountain fire was caused by a camper. Once again the carelessness and thoughtlessness of man resulted in a destructive fire. Wildlife and timber was damaged on 160 acres, and the cost of suppressing the fire was $1,043 of the taxpayers' money.□
