According to Snead, the school board may at any time start the draw down process on the $22,642 certificate of deposit on file with the clerk’s office. Snead emphasized that the board could collect the money for the property and still go to condemnation proceedings. If the amount settled on by the condemnation commissioners is higher than the highway department’s offer, then the department must pay the difference. If the amount is lower, the school board must refund the difference.
Snead said he expected the condemnation case with the highway department represented by Leesburg attorney Royce Givens to go to court here within six Months. “That’s if we can't reach an agreement. The department never gives up on the possibility of reaching an amicable agreement with any property owner,” Snead concluded.
