Coombs added tnat tne highway department has no objections to a sign welcoming motorists to the town and listing the services available in Washington. Bob Dennis, representing the Izaak Walton League, said that organization also supported having representatives from the county, the business community and the highway department work together on a single town sign "to let the public know what is where.” He maintained that the precedent of approving St. Clair’s application “would haunt us in the long run” and added that with the signs St. Clair already has, his total square footage would be over the aggregate limit set by the zoning ordinance.
The vote to deny St. Clair’s sign application for his Black Kettle Restaurant was unanimous.
