“It’s an untenable plan that would create chaos,” she said.
She said the office in Washington would be reduced from a staff of seven to five. Besides her position as director, Marie Davis’s position as office manager would also be eliminated. Mrs. Davis’s is responsible for the bookkeeping for the agency, keeping track of the separate budgets for each of the agency’s programs.
“It’s not supposed to affect clients, but it would filter down to clients even though the direct line workers would still be here,” Ms Bowen said.
“A lot of us are alarmed that the state is cutting a wide swath without looking at the local impact,” she said.
She also said that state guidelines call for a supervisor for every five to seven people and that by the state’s own case load standards, social service agencies are understaffed statewide.
She also noted that caseloads are rising all over the state. “They would be creating chaos in a system at the time it needs to be handling these people,” she concluded.
