To the editor:
The following open letter was addressed to the members of the Orange-Madison Cooperative Farm Service.
As you are aware, your cooperative is experiencing serious financial difficulties which the Board of Directors is attempting tb remedy.
You will soon be called upon to make a decision regarding OrangeMadison’s future. A majority of the Board of Directors and Management have decided and are encouraging you to vote in favor of merging with the Culpeper Farmers Cooperative. These are the same Board Members and Management who failed to take preventive action against these problems in the past and allowed them to continue causing the difficulties we find ourselves in today.
Such a merger may be indeed beneficial to all members, however, we feel that all possible solutions have not been explored in an openminded manner. Merger with Culpeper will end an organization that has served the agricultural needs of this area for over 50 years and certainly should not be rushed into without investigation of other alternatives including:
