year had gotten his customers ready for Christmas earlier. He has sold about 100 trees so far this year, and hopes to more than double that by the end of the season.
The O’Mearas sell only white pine, but they are now planting Colorado blue spruce. Mr. O’Meara relies on his sons Patrick, 15, and Timothy, 12, for most of his labor, and he said the blue spruce are for when he loses his labor supply. The blue spruce will not require the labor in shearing that white pine do.
The O’Mearas advertise in most of the local papers and donate trees to many area businesses where they leave their brochures. They also offer to donate $2 for each tree sold to the local non-profit agency of the buyer’s choice.
Grace Boehm, who with her husband Jack bought Spring Hill Farm from Keeton and Aileen Barnes already planted in white pine, says she thinks business is a little slower this year than last. She has sold about 200 trees so far this year.
