In village news, the Smith-McGlothlin Christmas Eve Celebration at the fire hall brought together approximately 70 family members. Sharon McGlothlin was recognized for having traveled the greatest distance (from Phoenix, Arizona); the youngest member was Ashley Jones of Culpeper, age 5 months. The oldest member was Mrs. Margaret Crawford of Marshall, age 86. Most family members present went to Rev. C M. McGlothlin, of Centreville, who had 9 children present. Couple married the longest went to Mr. and Mrs. James Burgess of Marshall, with 42 years. Members enjoyed a delicious meal, children opened gifts, the Christmas story was recited by Nicki Smith, 8, of Linden. Solo by Rev. Jerry Schloe, Cumberland, Md. and a time of fellowship was enjoyed by all.
It was of interest to note that the persons responsible for this large ' family were Edith and the late Willie “Bill” C. Smith Sr. who have seven children (one girl and six boys), 20 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. The late Anna and Rev. C. M. “Kin” McGlothlin Sr. have eleven children (two boys and nine girls), 34 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Having grown up together in Centreville, the two families have always been very close to each other, with two of the Smith boy’s marrying McGlothlin girls, Carrington and LouElla and Bob and Linda.
