Some 17 State Senate districts that have populations above the ideal of 153,372 are located in the same areas while, with few exceptions, legislative districts below the ideal are either in rural or urban core localities.
Democrats will, of course, do everything possible to minimize the impact of demographics which appear to Republican advantage. Still the GOP thinks no matter what the eventual outcome it will have a solid shot to gain seats both in the House and Senate next year.
After a decade in which there were few bright spots, Republican leaders now say their goal is to field a challenger against every incumbent Democrat next year and particularly to run hard races against some leading Democrats who have been seldom challenged in the past.
