An application to construct porch railings on her upstairs porch was approved for Mrs. Eldred. Her husband, Charles Eldred, a member of the ARB, did not vote on the application. In the application, she said that the railings will match the original design on the front of the house. Also, the screen porch will be redesigned at the rear of the structure and existing aluminum storm window screens will be replaced.
Mary Ann Kuhn, proprietor of the Middleton Inn, received approval to extend the front porch on her house 8 1/2 feet on either side, to match the existing porch, though without a roof. Also, she wants to put an addition on the back of a small building behind her house, which is barely visible from the road. She also plans to add a window to the front of that building. Her application was amended to include these changes to the building.
Dwight Matthews did not vote on the application because he had previously done some work for Ms. Kuhn. *
Mr. O’Connell said that he would like the ARB to consider giving an annual award to a town resident who has done a sympathetic change or an excellent restoration. “It might help the board and the community work a little better together,” he said.
Mr. Barton agreed that it was a good idea, and said that it should be put on the agenda for the next meeting.
