To the Editor:
It seems that there are still some misunderstandings about the upcoming RAAC management of the Fourth of July celebration for the town, so we hope this letter will help.
RAAC was pleased to volunteer to manage the Fourth of July celebration for the town when the Fire Department, which has handled it very capably for over 20 years, decided it was time to pass the baton to another community-based organization. RAAC has no funds in surplus to support this effort, and thus must raise money in advance to plan and purchase whatever is needed to make the occasion as fine a one as the town has come to expect.
As the Fire Department will attest, there are upfront expenditures for entertainment, publicity, sanitation facilities for thousands of guests, tents and rental of other equipment, signage, postage, and other things that it takes to stage such an event. The fees charged to all vendors, nonprofit organizations as well as individuals, will all go towards these costs, and not to RAAC. We, like other nonprofits on that day, will be selling goods to raise money for RAAC, and we will be sharing in the parking and entry fees which we will manage.
RAAC hopes to break even with the Fourth of July event, and will do everything it can to attract large and appreciative crowds to the many vendors and nonprofit organizations which will be with us that day.
We would also like to remind individual crafters that we are still looking for artist^ to participate with us on the Fourth, and that application forms for the juried selection process can be obtained from Eileen Day by calling 675-3033. All nonprofit organizations not using their own property and which intend to participate should also contact Eileen so that we can make sure we plan our space properly.
Many thanks to all the community for your support. Please watch your mail for an invitation to the RAAC Annual Picnic at Bob And Joan Herrema’s. We look forward to seeing all of you then and a month later at the greatest fourth of them all.
