The Department of Historic Resources and the Virginia Department of Transportation received federal money to replace the markers.
The markers will be placed at the county lines dividing the jurisdictions; VDOT will determine the exact sites.
Currently, there are about 2,000 markers statewide. Using money provided by the federal TEA-21 fund, it is hoped that Virginia will be able to replace or update about 60 historical markers this year.
