While the loss of a loved one an he a wrenching experience; having strong beliefs helps individuals recover faster from their losses. That is the conclusion reached by British researchers after conducting a study involving friends and family members of hospice patients. They found that those who truly believed in a higher power, regardless of what religion they followed, were able to recover from the death of a loved one faster than those with lower levels of spirituality and fared much better than those w ith"' no spiritual underpinnings. Belief in a higher power was found to be very comforting and helped buffer the shock that a loved one is gone. It helped believers know that there is still a connection.
