John Martin said that his brother was expecting to be released the week following his death.
Sheriff Smith declined to comment on his release date citing an ongoing investigation by the Virginia State FYilice.
“This was the first death of an inmate during my 20 year career with the Rappahannock sheriffs office,” said Sheriff Smith.
Martin was an area native having gone to schools in both Culpeper and Rappahannock counties, said his brother John. Although he had been “in and out of trouble with the law,” said Martin, he was a “happy-go-lucky” person who liked to garden and cook.
Clune said. “There are a lot of those groups in the county. We want to demonstrate that there's a lot of common ground there.”
