Sperryville, Washington and Castleton fire companies were responding to this one when the call came for the fire in Flint Hill.
Fodderstack fire
Friday there was also a grass fire along the Fodderstack Road on county supervisor’s Bryant Lee’s farm, started possibly by a piece of charcoal from an accidentally overturned grill, according to officials. The fire burned an acre and a half of his land before firefighters extinguished it in an hour and a half. There was no property damage, officials said.
This time of year is especially hazardous as there is plenty of dry fuel, low humidity during the day and often high winds.
“People need to be very cautious,” said Burke. “Anything before 4 p.m. is a violation of the state’s burning law, and anytime you do bum, people need to call the sherifFs department and let them know,” he said.
The forest service issued Davos a $111 ticket for burning before 4 p.m., and will have to pay for the equipment usage for putting out the fire.
“I got off pretty easy because we were able to contain it,” said Davis.
