Students To Vie For Scholarships Cumberland, Amelia, Powhatan Entered Students at Cumberland, Amelia and Powhatan high schools will compete in tlie second annual University of Richmond-WRV A Scholarship quiz launched this week. They will be among 800 stu dents in 71 eastern Virginia high schools attempting to qualify for 27 scholarships with a total value Of $7,000. Winners in each of 27 districts into which the contest area has been divided will be given $150 scholarships to the University oi Richmond and an opportunity to compete—on the air - for scho larships ranging upward in value to $1,000. The boy or girl selected to re present each of the 27 districts, on the basis of the written exam ination. will immediately qualify for a $150 scholarship. If the con testant is successful in the first round on the air the award will be increased to $350. Second round winners will receive s>6l)0, and the winner of the final round, $1000. Tn all. there will be 18 prize;; Of S150 each, six of $350 each! two Of $600. each, and a grand scholarship prize of $1,000 which will defray all of a student's first year expenses at the Uni lersity of Richmond. Dr. George M. Modlin. presi dent' of the University of Rich mond. and Dowell J. Howard, ■superintendent of Public Instruc tion, have praised the program highly. The quiz was launched last year with the support of the Richmond Rotary Club and with the en dorsement of Rotar y Club; throughout the contest area It has the same support this year.
