Grassland farming in Virginia, which was given new impetus two years ago whin Governor Battle named a state pasture committee, continued to forge ahead in 1952. Dr Walter S. Newman, presi dent of VPI and committee chairman, said farmers continued to divert cropland to pasture, to sow grass on land which had lain idle before, and to improve exist ing pastureland. ' rganized pasture clubs in 50 counties, and 97 locally organized pasture committees supplemented the work of the state committee. In addition to virtually every farm agency and gtoup in tlie state, civic organizations, indus trialists. and businessmen and firms supported tlie program.
