Both these grasses will make strong bids to head this month, particularly Fescue and should be clipped to prevent them doing so. Such a practice will also help free the field of noxious weeds.
I was in error last week in stating Blackleg-Malignent edima bacterin was available through our Commissioner of Agriculture. Having seen a cardboard carton containing some of this serum packed with the Commissioners return address posted thereon, I assumed his office to be the source. Clostridium Chauvei-Septicus bacterin, as it is called, U available through most veterinarian supply houses, such as O. M. Franklin Serum Co., of Kansas City.
Cattle producers are cautioned not to disregard the possibility of lice on young stock. Just recently I noticed a young Angus calf apparentlyless than 30 days oldthat was practically “crawlin’ witn lice.”
Cattle lice control recommendations are:
1. Lindane—mix I'h. pounds of a 25% wettable powder to 100 gallons of water. Spray thoroughly. One application will give good results.
2. B.H.C.—Spray with mixture 7 pounds B.H.C. wettable powder containing 6% gamma isomer to 100 gallons water. One thorough treatment should give good control. If calves under three months are treated, dilute this mixture to one-half strength.
