CLOUD AND WHORTON BEGIN BASIC TRAINING
According to information received, Pvt. Ervin H. Whorton, son of Mrs. Lillie M. Whorton of Amissville and Pvt. John T. Cloud, son of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Cloud of Amissville have been assigned to the 5th Infantry Division at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania for 16 weeks of basic training.
Their training at Indiantown Gap with the “Red Diamond” division will include the care and use of light and heavy infantry weapons, living in the field, strenous day and night marches, and combat tactics.
Combat-experienced veterans of World War II and the Korean campaign will be in charge of their training. The division is commanded by Major General Laurence B. Keiser, who himself is a veteran of Korean action.
Pvt. Whorton worked with S. D. Moses two and a half years in Washington, D. C. prior to his entry into the Army.
Pvt. Cloud was' employed by the Virginia State Highway Department prior to his entry . into the Army.
