Rappahannock With

Fauquier County

Long associated with tfie mother county, Culpeper, Rappahannock was placed with Fauquier in the re-districting last week for a Delegate in the Assembly.

With requests that Rappahannock be placed with Madison, Orange, and Culpeper, it was found *that the combined populations of the four counties would number in excess of 40,000 inhabitants, leaving Fauquier county with one delegate and a population of 21,000, Rappahannock’s 6.000 was deducted from the 40,000 and added to the 21,000 to make a more even distribution of 33,000 and 27,000.

The situation was understandable, but not pleasantly received in some quarters.

The reasons for placing Rappahannock with .Madison, Orange, and Culpeper were stated thus: these four counties are more alike in business, being farming and, fruit growing; the four counties are already together in the building of a high school for Negroes (Carver Regional High School) ; and Rappahannock had been with
