Our Neighbors Speak Up
The Fauquier Democrat, weekly newspaper published in our neighboring county, has served to bring forth the voices of opinions of our new associates in the district for representation in the Virginia House of Delegates.
At the time, when Rappahannock was placed in the district with Fauquier, there were distinct expressions that neither Rappahannock nor Fauquier sought the alliance. After the arrangement was made, it was taken in good nature, as everyone knew it would be.
The Fauquier paper published the account from Rappahannock News wherein one county citizen had pro. tested the alliance, saying his grandsire had left Fauquier and moved to Rappahannock because the people of Fauquier were ‘'horse-loving ^nd whiskey-drinking.”
Evidently, the people of Fauquier' saw the humor therein, for the following answer came out i n last week“’s Fauquier Democrat under the heading of “Letters to the Editor:1*

I read with some interest last week your article that a resident of Rappahannock County had moved there because people in Fauquier were “horse loving and whiskey drinking folk.” I have lived here a long time, and while I draw no conclusions, I want to say that I know a lot of good Rappahannock County people, and I know from personal observation that quite a few of them ride and love horses.
I also know some few Rappahannock people who have been known to take a drink.
One man of my acquaintance, on reading your story, told me that if all thfe whiskey made and sold over the years in good old Rappahannock had been subject to Federal tax, there would be no national debt. But welcome to Rappahannock anyway in the new General Assembly district.
