Above all the other services Mr. Barksdale has so ably rendered bis community stands another which cannot be over-emphasized as this present distinguished citation is being presented. Indeed, it is most important of all!
Mr. Barksdale is a good father.
One of his sons is in the Presbyterian ministry. This same son was winner of one of the rare Rotary fellowships for a year’s study abroad. Another son is associated with him in the conduct of his business . . . J. I* Barksdale Furniture Corp., the oldest furniture store, incidentally, in Waynesboro, and of which Mr. Barksdale, himself, serves as President and Treasurer. Another son is a senior in Waynesboro High School, an active leader in the student body. The fourth child, a daughter, is married to a Presbyterian minister and is, herself, a trained religious worker. The innate goodness of his character is reflected in his home and in the lives of these children.
We congratulate the judges upon their choice for 1953 and the Waynesboro Kiwanis Club for its civic devotion in making such an annual award possible. Such an annual award brings fitting recognition for unselfish and, altogether too often, unsung public service.
