Does 100 Bushel Corn Per

Acre Pay?

By W. H. Lyne

County Agent

In discussing corn production with Rappahannock farmers, several have told me, “What you say may be right however, I feel that if I use that much fertilizer and seed it will break me up. It will mean spending more money in fertilizer, seed, labqr in harvesting, etc., and I just don’t know whether it will pay me or not, or whether a smaller yield with these coast reduced will net me more." Frankly, I knew in principal I was right from the standpoint of economics and from the standpoint of soil and water conservation; however, I had not seen any comparative cost production figures and consequently couldn’t come back with any factual data.
