Praises be figures shown in the movie "Cash In On Corn” make me feel better about my preaching on producing 100 bushels of corn per acre. Incidentally the Agronomy and Soils brass of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, and Agronomy Departments and Experiment Stations of several southern states helped make this movie produced by the National Fertilizer Institute.
The present corn market is about $2 per bushel, however, the movie had a value $1.50. So lets use its figure the rest of the way. The 46 yield grossed $69 and netted the producer $24.42 per acre with a production cost of 96 3/4c per bushel The 100 bushel yield grossed $150 and netted $73.76 per acre with a production cost of 76 l/4c per bushel.
The average com yield in Rappahannock County according to the 1950 census (1949 crop) was a shade under 44 bushels per acre. The average yield of the Rappahannock* contestants in the 100" Bushel Corn Contest was 95.7 bushels per acre. Thus arises the rather pertinent question: Why be satisfied with less?
