We Are flat We Eat

(First prize essay in Sperryville School contest)

Is there anyone on the face of the earth who isn't interested in his waistline or lifeline? What you eat, and how much you eat, determine the size of the first and the length of the latter.

Every man's body is his very own house and, like other houses the body needs proper materials for building, repairs, and servicing. The food that one chooses to eat are those materials and on them much of one’s life and health depends.

The foods the body needs are called the Basic Seven. The Basic Seven are grouped as follows: group one or milk, drink three or four glasses daily; group two or green and yellow vegetables, have two or more servings eachday; group three or fruits eat two servings daily one of which should be a citrus fruit or a tomato; group four or eggs, have three to five a week; group five or meat, cheese, fish, dried beans, and poultry - eat one or more servings per day; group - six or cereals and bread, have two or more servings every day; and group seven or butter, get two or more tablespoons daily.
