R.U.H.S. registered its first win of the baseball season Friday, April 24, when the high school team defeated Stuyvesant School of Warrenton in a regular schedule 7-inning game that ran to 10 innings.
John Turner started for the Rappahannock boys but ran into trouble when lie lost his control in the third inning. Up to then Turner had credited himself with six strike-outs.
The climax of the game came when Sonny Brown, star catcher for the Panthers, bunted safely down the first base line on a beautifully executed squeeze play for Jackie Sisk to come in, knotting the score five-aU.
The shades of ‘Scooter* Rizzuti were on the field as Strother Brown, versatile athlete, doubled and later scored as the “Iron Man Himself,” Punk Pullen, lined one down to first base. Thus ended thh ball game, 6-5.
May 8 the Panthers again will take to the field seeking a second win in interscholastic competition. —N.C.
