Tokyo Seems Impossible
“People keep telling me it must have been a tape-recording,” says Mrs. Irving E. Sisk, Jr., of Washing-* ton, in telling about a telephone call she had from her husband, Pfc. Irving Sisk, from Tokyo. “I know that can’t he true,” she says, “because he sounded as if he might be at Merrill's Garage, or just as close. He said he couldn’t hear me so well, but I could hear him fine. Besides, if it were a tape-recording, how would he have known what questions I asked him and given the answers?” Mrs. Side, who spends her time half with her family, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Woodward, and the other half with her husband’s family, stated that she had to sit at the phone for 25 minutes waiting for the call to come through. It was a person-to0|^||
^ ' '£g£jp£ - * making her reassert the fact that she was the Jean Sisk to whom die call was sent. After the call finally came through, she and Mr. and Mrs. Sisk had * five-minute chat with Pfc. Sisk in Tokyo. Pfc. Irving E. Sisk, Jr., was inducted in February 1952 and went overseas in September. He had been in Korea but was back in Tokyo for a week of rest and recreation when he made the phone call home last Friday. He hopes to ship back to the States in August
James H. Falls Stationed In
Japan
Army Pvt. James H. Falls, son of Mr. and Mrs. Layton Falls of Warrenton, recently arrived in Japan and is now serving with the 1st Cavalry Division.
Part of the U. S. security forces in Japan, the 1st Cavalry Division is undergoing intensive field training. It was rotated from Korea in late 1951 after 17 months of combat duty. Private Falls, whose wife, Myrtle, lives in* Woodville with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Burke, entered the Army last August and received his basic training at Camp Pickett.
