Somebody said that civilization is only skin deep. I’d like to add my five cents worth and say that the skin is pretty thin. Old Adam bursts out on the slightest provocation and sometimes the skin is badly torn in getting the old rascal back where he belongs.
Automobiles attract the old scoundrel enormously. You can go on building up a fine personality, gentle and courteous‘in all walks of life. You can barely tip someone on the elbow standing in a crowded elevator, and turn to apologize for the error. But, when you sit in an automobile, behind that steering wheel to unlimited adventure, the old Adam springs out and takes control in the most awkward and distressing manner.
