Next morning we began our classes in Folk Game Leadership, World Neighbors, where we met and talked with farm youth from other countries under the International Farm Youth. Exchange plan, and Social Dancing.
We also took song leadership, club plans, 4-H activities, and tips for toppers, a class in keeping accurate records for winning contests. The boys also had livestock classes.
Tuesday morning, at assembly, W. H. Daughtrey of V.P.I. talked on “The Growth and Development of 4-H Club Work in Virginia.” He showed slides, one a copy of one of the pictures in our special 4-H issue. We were again proud of our winners of the past.
That evening Betty Rutherford attended elimination for the Share the Fun program; Kelly Updike entered livestock judging; and the remaining delegates toured the campus.
After vespers and game hour (which were held every night), we attended the All Star program. Newbill Miller took part in the program and short play, “The Return Home.”
On Wednesday we followed much the same schedule except the girls attended the state contest in Home Improvement.
Almost all state awards are made during Short Course and it is quite thrilling to see someone you have talked to or worked with be called up to get a certificate of achievement.
