This is held on the drill field. Each county group sits behind a card with the county’s name. These formed a huge circle, into which the All Stars marched, singing. Scouts are sent out to call new members. Only one boy and one girl from most counties may be called. No one knows who will be chosen.
One of the first boys to be led before the big chief was Kelly Updike. Soon, Lelia Gentry was called also.
How do you feel when the great honor is bestowed upon you? There will never be words to express it. As the chief asks, ‘<Wbom bring you here?” and the scout gives your name, the feeling is like nothing you ever felt before. I am sure I shall not have this feeling again for a long time, perhaps never. You are led to face an All-Star, pinned with a red rose, and accepted into the organization after initiation.
For the first time since the 4-H clubs have been re-organized, this county has had both a boy and a girl All Star and a Short Course officer! Kelly Updike also placed
