In spite of a cold wind, the fourth annual Rappahannock Point-to-Point drew an estimated crowd of 2,000 and a record number of entries. Thirty-four horses represented eleven hunts in Saturday evening’s races.
In the first race, Redmond , owned by Mrs. Alan Dv Kinsley, set the - pace all the way and won easily. The Ladies’ race was certainly one of the most exciting races ever seen anywhere. All five horses ran well together and until the finish line it was a toss-up between Miss Jean Blackwell on Bones and Miss Sally Roszel on Joseph Mulford’s Clifton's Dixie with Bones winning by a nose. Quite a few people, including Joe Palmer, the announcer, thought the ladies’ race was the most thrilling point-to-point race they had ever seen.
Nine horses went to the post in the Mt. Marshal] and Laddie Murray on Mrs. *N.nK. Toerge’s In the Clouds set the pace all the way but worked hard as Polichinela, last year's winner, pushed him right along. Unfortunately, four horses and their riders parted company in this race but no one was hurt. '
